PUBLIC STATEMENT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT INCIDENT WITH A FATALITY
September 17, 2026
The Town of South Palm Beach is aware a shooting incident occurred early today in front of Town Hall involving an on-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) Deputy and an apparent local resident involved in an altercation with the Deputy.
We want to assure our community that all Town Staff and Elected Officials are safe and were not involved in the incident. Our thoughts are with our onsite PBSO Deputy involved, who is currently under observation at a medical facility. Law Enforcement partner agencies, PBSO and FDLE shut down access to the Town Hall site and SR A-1-A while under active investigation.
There is one deceased individual, a local resident. The scene remains secured and blocked off while law enforcement conducts its full investigation. We will monitor and report as the scene is cleared and vehicular flow returns through Town on South Ocean Boulevard (SR A-1-A).
All Town Hall meetings and in-house services were canceled for today, September 17, 2026.
Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area, allowing law enforcement to complete their work. Normal Town Hall access and services should resume tomorrow at regular office hours.
We understand that an incident of this nature is unexpected and concerning for our community. We appreciate the many residents and community members who have reached out with concern for our Staff, Officials, and PBSO Deputies. Parking and access to our condominium communities has been affected temporarily, this should clear up upon conclusion of LE official activities.
The Sheriff did a Press Conference on the incident late morning, and further information will be forthcoming official details regarding the incident are released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and its Public Information Officer.
Thank you for your concern, patience, and understanding as this difficult event is investigated.
Sincerely,
Town Administration
Town of South Palm Beach
